1. Identity is the First Line of Defense

  • Secret Hygiene: Remove all hardcoded API keys in code and migrate them to AWS Secrets Manager.
  • WAF Tuning: Review WAF rules to ensure rate-limiting is active to prevent simple DDoS/Brute-force attacks.

Event Experience

This workshop was a strong reminder that Security is a continuous process, not a destination.

From Theory to Practice

The session did an excellent job of demystifying complex topics like “Zero Trust.” Instead of buzzwords, we saw practical implementations: strict security groups, temporary credentials, and rigorous logging.

The Value of Automation

The most impressive takeaway was the Incident Response automation. Seeing a Lambda function automatically contain a simulated threat highlighted the gap between “monitoring” (watching a screen) and “observability/response” (system self-healing).

Final Thought: “In the cloud, you don’t secure the perimeter; you secure the data and the identity.” This session provided the blueprint to do exactly that.
